Neither Arabia nor Real Madrid, David Alaba already has a new team in Germany: Lucas Vázquez knows it

The defender's contract ends at the end of the current season, and possible destinations are already starting to emerge

Many times, the end of something appears unexpectedly and there is no choice but to accept it. On other occasions, however, the closure of an experience is written in advance, with an expiration date included. That is what is happening in the relationship between David Alaba and Real Madrid, which will come to an end once the current 2025/26 season finishes.

David Alaba has a contract signed with those from Castellana until June 30, 2026. The most logical thing, and what several media outlets close to Real Madrid's current affairs are already suggesting, is that he will not renew. His last seasons have been especially complicated, since he has had to deal with constant injuries.

Nevertheless, David Alaba will say goodbye to Real Madrid and will have the opportunity to look for a new team, where he will arrive as a free agent, for the next 2026/27 season. Some rumors placed him in Saudi Arabia, where many of the great players end up when they feel their European adventure is over. However, as the portal Fichajes.net has indicated, the Austrian defender would have received an offer from the Bundesliga that would seem more attractive to him than traveling to the Middle East.

David Alaba, hampered by injuries at Real Madrid

Certainly, David Alaba can't make any complaints about the privileged sporting career he has enjoyed. Everything began at Bayern Munich, the club that bet on him when he was still a youth player at Austria Wien. In 2010, he became part of the Bavarian first team and that same season he went on loan for six months to Hoffenheim.

Since the summer of 2011, he established himself in the first team and gradually earned stripes during his ten years there. He left the Bavarian capital as the team's reference defender and having built his own successful story at the most prestigious club in Germany. He won dozens of titles there and left as one of the great idols of the fans.

He arrived at Real Madrid in 2021 and had no problems becoming one of the starting defenders. In his first year in Spain, he played 46 matches and in the second 39, being absolutely undisputed in the starting line-ups. However, in his third year on the Meseta, everything became complicated. In December of that 2023, he suffered a very serious knee injury that kept him off the field for more than a year. Since then, nothing has been the same.

Injuries have accompanied him since he recovered and now, in the current season, he is probably the fifth defender for Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid. Huijsen, Militao, Rüdiger, and probably even Asencio are ahead of David Alaba in the rotation. That's why it seems unlikely, unless there is a plot twist, that he will renew with Real Madrid.

David Alaba could return to the Bundesliga

Knowing this situation, Hoffenheim, the club where, let us remember, David Alaba has already played for six months, has shown interest in him. They would have to discuss several things, such as reducing his high salary, but, certainly, Die Kraichgauer would benefit greatly from having a defender with his advanced experience.

In Germany, they have very good memories of David Alaba because of his decade at Bayern and they know that, if injuries respect him more than in Madrid, he can perform well. There, in the German country, he would coincide, although not share a locker room, with Lucas Vázquez. The Galician has headed this summer to Bayer Leverkusen. Two former Real Madrid players competing in the Bundesliga; although, of course, probably with different objectives.
