Deco was right, Laporta didn't listen to him and now he regrets it: 'He's shining in...'
The president of FC Barcelona knows that a gem who is expected to define an era has slipped away from him
The tandem formed by Deco and Joan Laporta has brought much joy to FC Barcelona in recent months. Two years ago, at a time of greatest need, Laporta placed his trust in Xavi Hernández and was completely right. Although the era of the legendary "6" didn't end as everyone expected, it allowed Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí to make their debuts.
However, it was the arrival of Deco that marked a qualitative leap in the sporting direction. Under his leadership, Hansi Flick arrived, and with him came the successes achieved this season. Barça have won important titles and have shown a solid and vertical play style, but not everything has been a success in this new era.

Deco's warning didn't prevent Laporta's mistake
Last summer, Deco, Flick, and Laporta met to plan reinforcements. The German coach requested a winger to complete the attack. Together, they considered several candidates, the best in the world, and the final decision doesn't seem to have been entirely correct.
Joan Laporta proposed Nico Williams as the top option. Flick opted for Dani Olmo, who was ultimately chosen. However, Deco had another candidate in mind: Désiré Doué.
Désiré Doué, the best young player in the Champions League whom Laporta rejected
Désiré Doué has excelled this season and has been crowned the best young player in the Champions League. His performance in the final, with two goals, proved his quality. If Barça had signed Doué, he and Lamine Yamal would have formed an explosive duo on the wings.
In this regard, the failed signing of Doué is now a reason for reflection at Barça. Deco already showed his conviction about the Frenchman's talent, who now shines at PSG. Meanwhile, Laporta admits his mistake, but understands that it was what had to be done: it was a risky bet.
The price frustrated Désiré Doué's arrival
The high price demanded by Stade Rennes frustrated Doué's signing. PSG paid €50 million to secure his services when he had barely proved anything. Meanwhile, Laporta decided to bet on Dani Olmo by paying €55 million: a very good player, but who hasn't performed as well.

The left wing remains a target
This summer, the left wing will remain a priority for Barça. Lamine Yamal stands out on the right, and he is both the present and the future. Doué would have been the ideal partner for him on the other side; Deco and Laporta will have to look for new options to strengthen the attack.
Deco and Laporta have achieved great successes at Barça. However, the transfer market always involves risks and mistakes. The story of Désiré Doué and Dani Olmo is a clear example.
FC Barcelona's future will depend on continuing to make the right decisions and strengthening key areas to keep competing at the highest level.
