Florentino Pérez's big promise to Real Madrid's locker room: 'If you win el clásico...'

Xabi Alonso's team has the opportunity to redeem itself after failing to win any matches last year against Barça

It's impossible for a Barça - Real Madrid match to leave anyone indifferent. The great clásico of Spanish soccer and one of the biggest duels in European soccer arrives this Sunday and promises to paralyze the entire world for the 90 minutes it lasts. Even though we're only in the tenth matchday of LaLiga, there's already a lot at stake.

Barça and Real Madrid are leading the race to take the top spot in the Spanish domestic competition table. For now, Xabi Alonso's team are in front, but Hansi Flick's team are just two points behind. That is, if the culés win, they'll become leaders.

On the other hand, if the blancos come out on top, they'll pull five points ahead of their great rival. This is a significant cushion that would give them a big advantage in their battle to reclaim the LaLiga throne. But that's not the only thing at stake.

Last season, there were as many as four matches between Barça and Real Madrid, and in all of them, the balance tipped toward the culé team. Two titles (the Copa and the Supercopa) and the two LaLiga matches served to show that, at least during the 2024/25 season, Barça were above Real Madrid. That caused a lot of pain on La Castellana.

That's why, now, given how things are going at the start of this campaign, Real Madrid have a golden opportunity to turn things around. As if that weren't enough, Lamine Yamal's provocations in recent weeks have increased the ambitions for victory in the merengue environment. So, it's not just three points being distributed this afternoon in the clásico at Santiago Bernabéu.

Three golden points at Bernabéu

In this context, the portal Defensa Central has stated that Xabi Alonso has made a promise to his players. The Basque coach will give Real Madrid footballers two days off during the week if they manage to beat Barça. There's no Champions League and the merengues won't play again until November 1 against Valencia. There will be three matches in just eight days (8 d); against the ches, Liverpool, and Rayo in Vallecas.

It'll be good for them, then, to enjoy a couple of days of rest to be able to face what's coming in the next few days. Florentino Pérez agrees with the decision, since for him it's also essential to finally beat Barça once and for all. Although a draw would also allow Real Madrid to keep the lead, the top brass of the white club want all three points.
