Robert Lewandowski confirms what he does with dessert in Spain: 'it's much better'

With the support of his wife, Anna Lewandowska, the footballer has incorporated an unusual way of eating into his routine

Robert Lewandowski, a European soccer star and one of the most effective forwards of the last decade, doesn't just take care of his performance on the field. Off the field, he pays special attention to his diet.

Together with his wife, Anna Lewandowska, a nutrition expert, he has adopted an unconventional eating style: the so-called "reverse diet." Yes, that means eating dessert first.

Major surprise after Robert Lewandowski's confession

This way of eating is essentially based on changing the traditional order of dishes, and Lewandowski sums it up like this: "I eat cake first. Then noodles and meat and, at the end, salad or soup." In his case, he also avoids ultra-processed products, wheat flour, and dairy.

So, one of his meals could start with a brownie, continue with rice and fish, and end with a salad rich in micronutrients. The goal, according to the footballer, is to improve digestion and make it easier to burn fat. But what does science say about starting with dessert?

Some research suggests that the order of foods can influence the body's response. There are studies that indicate that eating fiber at the beginning helps reduce the blood sugar spike. Regarding having dessert first, there isn't a clear consensus.

Robert Lewandowski has surprised everyone

As pointed out in El Español, from a cultural point of view, it's not that strange. "In other cuisines, sweet starters are eaten or used between dishes to change the flavors on the palate," says nutritionist Martínez.

To this, a possible psychological effect is added. "Eating nuts or some fruit half an hour before the meal is filling enough so that you don't overeat during the meal," explains Delgado. In addition, a study published in 2019 revealed an interesting fact.

When diners chose dessert before the rest of the menu, they usually opted for healthier main courses. That is, if someone started with a cheesecake, it was more likely that they would then choose a lighter dish. This didn't happen if everything was decided at the same time.

"According to this evidence, choosing dessert first can promote a feeling of fullness. In addition, it could set and determine the choice of the next dish, leading to eating less and healthier," Martínez concludes.

Although Lewandowski's diet breaks with tradition, some studies suggest that starting with dessert could positively influence how we eat. Even so, there isn't evidence and, as always, it's best to consult professionals before following any trend.
