They announce the name of the center-back who will leave Ronald Araújo out: Pau Cubarsí knows him
Flick isn't satisfied with Araújo's performance, which could see his starting position questioned
The Uruguayan center-back from Barça, Ronald Araújo, has been the subject of many rumors in recent months regarding his future with the club. The Uruguayan center-back was injured during the last Copa América and was away from competitions for several months. During that time, the Cubarsí-Iñigo Martínez partnership established itself in the starting eleven with exceptional performances.
With Araújo's return in December 2024, the Uruguayan took on a secondary role in the team while waiting for opportunities. When he had the chance to play, he showed he was far from his best form and was very close to leaving the club last January. Juventus was about to sign him in the winter transfer window, but in the end, his departure was thwarted.

Surprisingly, in March, Ronald Araújo announced his contract renewal with Barça, which ties him to the club until June 2031. Now, with the unexpected departure of Iñigo Martínez, the Uruguayan sees his chances of returning to the starting eleven increasing. Hansi Flick seems likely to bet on the international Uruguayan center-back to partner with the young Pau Cubarsí in the heart of the defense.
Ronald Araújo is not untouchable
The first three matchdays of the league have brought several changes to the club's defense: Flick still isn't sure who the starting defenders will be. The German coach especially doubts who should partner Pau Cubarsí, who seems to be the only untouchable in the backline. So far, Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen have played in the center of defense, but Flick hasn't been convinced by their performances.
In this scenario, Hansi Flick also has Eric García in mind if Araújo's performance doesn't improve. This is shown by the fact that in the first three matchdays, Eric has only been off the field for 5 minutes. He started as right-back in the first two matchdays, moving to the center against Rayo Vallecano.

Eric García ousts Ronald Araújo
With the transfer window closed, Deco is now focusing on renewing Eric García's contract. The defender from Martorell has experienced spectacular growth since last January, taking on a leading role in the team. Now, his renewal until 2030 is expected to be announced in the coming days, when just a few months ago his future at Barça was a complete mystery.
It was from January onwards that Flick gave him a chance due to the plague of injuries in the defensive line. Eric García performed at a very high level in all his appearances, earning Hansi Flick's trust. Since then, Eric has become the German coach's wildcard, and he's even being considered to take Ronald Araújo's spot.
