José Mourinho asks for a major Barça signing, he wants him in January, Joan Laporta agrees without hesitation

Benfica is facing a new season with Mourinho on the bench and could sign one of the Barça captains

Winter is approaching and, with it, transfer rumors are starting to shoot out from a lush cannon that could end up being real bombs. It's complex to think that a suggestive move could happen mid-season, but there always ends up being one. This time, José Mourinho and Barça are involved.

Just a few weeks ago, an unexpected move took place on European benches and José Mourinho left Fenerbahçe to join Benfica. He returned, then, to the team where he began his journey as a coach; he did so after Bruno Lage was dismissed following a poor start to the season. Romantic coincidences of life.

In his first five matches with Las Águilas, he has achieved two wins, two draws, and a painful defeat in the Champions League against one of his former teams, Chelsea. Looking ahead to the winter transfer window, José Mourinho intends to give the team a quality boost and has already proposed some names to the board. He knows that, to compete for big things, something more is needed; he has already gotten to work.

Several names will be mentioned for several positions for sure, but one of the first to appear in the equation is precisely a Barça player. In fact, news is already starting to circulate in Portugal about a possible request for the loan of Ter Stegen. The young Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatolii Trubin is currently the starter in Benfica's goal, but José Mourinho wants experience between the posts.

Ter Stegen is considering it

The situation of Ter Stegen at Barça is well known to us. After a very eventful summer in which he even had the captaincy suddenly taken away and a disciplinary file opened, now he is Barça's third goalkeeper. The signing of Joan García has completely taken away his starting spot and Szczesny is highly favored by Hansi Flick.

To make matters worse, Ter Stegen is recovering from his back injury and his return is not expected until January. The former Monchengladbach player would like to play in this second part of the season, but he knows that at Barça it is complicated. There is a World Cup in the summer and without playing, his chances of being Germany's goalkeeper become more difficult.

That's why it doesn't seem at all utopian that Ter Stegen could leave for a team like Benfica, where he would even play in the Champions League. Everything will depend, however, on how he returns from his medical leave and whether he comes back within the expected time frame. In that case, it seems viable for him to leave Barça.

In Portugal, they point out that Benfica's preferred option is a simple loan. In another situation, the culé response might have been different, but right now Joan Laporta and Deco see it as a good option. They would free up some salary cap space and remove drama from Barça's goal: killing two birds with one stone has never been so easy.
