'it's Not Compatible in Catalonia to Be Feminist and Play Into Salafism'
Roger Montañola, from PDeCAT, criticizes 'goodism' in Catalonia
Immigration was taboo in Catalonia until the emergence of Aliança Catalana, an independentist and identitarian party. Proposals to curb immigration are no longer exclusive to "Spanish fascism." More and more voices within Catalanism speak openly about the migration issue in Catalonia.
One of them is Roger Montañola, the head of the PDeCAT list in the July 23 elections. His party claims the legacy of CiU against Junts's pro-independence adventure, whom they accuse of having sold Catalanism to the "woke" left. "Without order, there is no freedom, and in Catalonia, we've been following CUP's lead for too many years," says Montañola.
PDeCAT Speaks Openly
In a press conference at the Catalan News Agency (ACN), Montañola emphasized this issue. He criticized that in some places, radical Salafism is being played along with, which belittles women and treats them as if we were in the medieval era." He warned that "it is not compatible with gender equality."
The PDeCAT candidate criticized the "overexploitation of feminism" and called to "stop sweeping certain debates under the rug."
It is not the first time that Roger Montañola, coming from Unió, has railed against the prevailing "goodism" in Catalonia. The convergent candidate advocates for "legal, orderly, and controlled" immigration. He criticizes "the goodism of this country that doesn't want to face debates like immigration."
The Party of Order
PDeCAT presents itself in these elections as the Catalanist party of order aimed at burying the procés. Montañola criticizes the radicalism of Junts and says that "the procés was to make us all communists." He criticizes CUP's hypocrisy of embracing both feminism and radical Islamism.
In his crusade against the "goodism" of the left in Catalonia, Montañola states that "neither Hard Rock nor the airport expansion will influence climate change."
The party also claims to be the heir of CiU's pactism, willing to negotiate with all parties in Madrid except Vox. They state that independence is not a priority for Catalonia and are in favor of expanding self-government.
