Junts Per Catalunya Confirms They Want to Be the New Cup

The 'procesismo' has staged its division in the Catalan debate

Junts has literally copied CUP's speech. The anti-establishment group has promised not to invest in any president who doesn't set a time and question for a self-determination referendum in Catalonia. Now the post-convergents are launching the same proposal to Esquerra.

Junts's head of the list in the July 23 elections, Míriam Nogueras, proposes not to invest in any candidate if they don't transfer the powers for a referendum to Catalonia. She conveyed this to ERC's candidate, Gabriel Rufián, during the electoral debate on TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio. The republican replied that they are the "champions of the referendum."

On Tuesday, the independence movement showed its division over the strategy to follow in Madrid. Rufián defended the dialogue table tooth and nail and once again claimed the success of his commitment to negotiation with the State. CUP maintained its position and Junts radicalized to match the cupaires.

El Procesismo, Divided

Esquerra, in line with its campaign, has claimed the work done in Madrid. It has told CUP and Junts that they are not the enemy and has criticized their radical position in the face of the "danger" represented by PP and Vox.

Nogueras wanted to dismantle ERC's strategy by saying it has been useless. This provoked a confrontation with Rufián, who reminded her that the prisoners have been released thanks to them. Junts's candidate confirmed that her party has ended up adopting CUP's strategies.

Both Nogueras and Albert Botrán criticized the dialogue table to Rufián and his pacts with the socialists. Fundamentally, both the post-convergents and the anti-establishment group are betting on blocking politics in Madrid. Something that the republicans see as irresponsible in a context of the right's rise.

PDeCAT, the Surprise

With the procesismo divided and worn out, PDeCAT has had a golden opportunity to show a differentiated profile. Its candidate, Roger Montañola, has been one of the surprises of the debate. He has called for returning sensibility to Catalanism and definitively burying the procés.

In contrast to the whims of ERC, Junts, and CUP, PDeCAT wants to be a useful party in Madrid to expand the levels of self-government. Additionally, Montañola presents himself as the candidate of order. He has specifically criticized Junts for having turned Catalonia into a CUP's fiefdom.
