Buenafuente, Almodóvar and Javier Bardem to the Rescue of Pedro Sánchez
The 'eyebrow artists' reappear to support PSOE and Sumar
They are always there when the left needs them the most. In 2008, when Zapatero was on the ropes, artists like Pedro Almodóvar, Javier Bardem, Joaquín Sabina, Josep Manuel Serrat, Miguel Bosé, Víctor Manuel, and Ana Belén created a platform to support ZP. They were called the 'artists of the eyebrow'.
Now, more than 300 personalities from the world of culture have signed a manifesto asking for votes for left-wing parties. "This is not the time for setbacks and regressions to policies that have proven harmful," the manifesto states.
From Almodóvar to Manuela Carmena
Among the signatories are well-known figures like Pedro Almodóvar, Javier Bardem, and Andreu Buenafuente. Also, the general secretary of CCOO, Unai Sordo, and that of UGT, Pere Álvarez. Artists and unionists join hands to call for "massive turnout at the polls" against the "conservative wave with far-right offshoots".
In addition to those mentioned, the signatories include José Sacristán, Lola Herrera, Juan Diego Botto, María Barranco, Carmen Machi, Juan Echanove, and Rossy de Palma. Also Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Anabel Alonso, Alberto San Juan, and Emilio Gutiérrez Caba. And singers Joan Manuel Serrat and Rozalén.
Writers Javier Cercas and Rosa Montero join the list, as well as El Gran Wyoming, musicians, historians, researchers, and others. Among the politicians are Manuel Carmena, Joaquín Almunia, José Montilla, and Cristina Almedia.
Praise for PSOE and Podemos
Although they do not ask for votes for any specific party, they do highlight "the very favorable result of the PSOE-Unidas Podemos coalition government". Specifically, they emphasize "social progress, growth, and job stability". For this reason, they call for "continuing to consolidate and advance in the social and democratic rule of law".
The opposite, they say, will be "to regress with regressive policies" that according to the manifesto are carried out by the new regional governments of PP and Vox. In particular, they emphasize the "steps backward" in education and culture.
Vox Warns
Vox has already warned that if they come to power they will end the "ideological bias" in Culture. "I will not accept accusations of censorship and cancellation from those who have made censorship and cancellation a way of life," said Santiago Abascal.
Vox's candidate for the presidency presented his party's program on Culture last Monday. He was supported by journalist Juan Carlos Girauta, bullfighter Vicente Barrera, and writer Enrique García-Máiquez. Abascal lashed out against the woke left, that "social pathology that treats adults as minors and children as degenerate adults".
