Psoe Compares Itself to Carlos Alcaraz and Sees Itself as Winner on 23j

The socialists cling to the winning mentality of the Murcian tennis player

The Murcian tennis player Carlos Alcaraz was crowned Wimbledon champion yesterday at just twenty years old. His performance was an example of a winning mentality and perseverance. The Spaniard defeated the greatest tennis player of all time, Novak Djokovic, despite losing the first set by a landslide.

Pedro Sánchez congratulated Alcaraz just after the match ended: “Huge Carlos Alcaraz, Wimbledon champion in a final that will go down in history.” The tennis player received congratulations from other candidates like those from PP and Sumar, in the midst of the electoral campaign.

However, in Moncloa, there was someone more astute who saw in the Spanish athlete's feat a hook for campaigning. PSOE is in a race against time to turn the polls around. A situation that Félix Bolaños, Pedro Sánchez's right-hand man, compared to the comeback of the Murcian tennis player.

The minister encouraged the socialists' comeback by appealing to Carlos Alcaraz's spirit: “We’re going to win because we deserve it and the right to lose because they deserve it too. Carlos Alcaraz has won after a comeback, I'll leave it at that.”

Sánchez Only Has Optimism Left

Bolaños congratulated the Spanish tennis player “for putting our country's name at the top.” He referred to him as “this great compatriot” and appealed to his pride and winning mentality to boost Pedro Sánchez to the presidency of Spain. A desperate attempt to bring optimism despite the bleak scenario for the socialists.

There are only a few days left until the election date and the polls do not show a sufficient trend change to turn the situation around. The face-to-face with Feijóo ended the few options. Now PSOE only has to appeal to Carlos Alcaraz's spirit.

Carlos Alcaraz, Again in Campaign

At just twenty years old, it is not the first time Carlos Alcaraz enters an electoral campaign. In the municipal elections, the Murcian president Fernando López Miras (PP) used the tennis player as an electoral lure. Something that the opposition strongly criticized and that the electoral board considered irregular.

That was controversial because the president took advantage of an official event, the inauguration of the Carlos Alcaraz Cup, to campaign. The opposition asked the tennis player not to attend that. Now it is the socialists who exploit his success to encourage the much-desired comeback.
