Pepa Millán, the Scourge of Pedro Sánchez That Vox Has Chosen as New Spokesperson

Vox has chosen a new spokesperson to close the crisis opened by the departure of Iván Espinosa de los Monteros. According to OK Diario, Pepa Millán will lead the party's spokesperson role alongside two deputies, María Ruiz and José María Figaredo. Vox is thus betting on a young woman who became famous for a notable intervention against Pedro Sánchez in the Senate.

It was December 21, 2022, when the young senator from Córdoba took the podium to portray Pedro Sánchez. "This government has replaced democracy with its impositions and has replaced popular sovereignty with the will of those who want to break Spain," she addressed a Pedro Sánchez with a concerned expression.

Pedro Sánchez's and other socialist leaders' expressions were also striking during an intervention by the senator months earlier. It was during her dazzling debut when she accused PSOE of leading the country to a "national suicide." Now, Vox chooses her as the visible face in the Congress of Deputies.

Generational Change in Vox

María José Rodríguez de Millán Parro (Cabra, 1995) represents the new generations of Vox, who are gaining ground with the schism opened in the party. The leadership wants to stop the crisis by bringing in new talents. Additionally, her selection reaffirms the strategy of promoting female profiles in this new stage.

The party is experiencing a generational change with the rise of figures like José María Figaredo or Pepa Millán herself. This coincides with the departure or stepping aside of key figures like Javier Ortega Smith and Iván Espinosa de los Monteros.

Pepa Millán is a graduate and holds a master's degree in Law, as well as being a columnist in national newspapers. She joined the party in 2020 to work as an analyst advisor for the Parliamentary Group in Andalusia. She was the number two candidate for Córdoba in the Senate, and in her debut, she drew significant attention, thus beginning her meteoric rise.

Ruiz and Figaredo, Deputy Spokespersons

Since then, she has become an emerging star promoted from the sector closest to Abascal. This is why the leader of the party chose her as number five on the Madrid list for the July 23 elections. Besides being a woman and young, she allows for showcasing the territorial diversity within Vox.

Millán will be supported by María Ruiz and José María Figaredo, new deputy spokespersons of the party. María Ruiz was number two on the lists for Madrid behind Abascal. Her verbal confrontation with Pablo Iglesias when he was vice president in the Congress of Deputies stands out.

The Asturian José María Figaredo, 35 years old, is also part of the batch of new talents in Vox. His interventions in the chamber have not gone unnoticed either. Especially his clashes with María Jesús Montero following the socialist corruption scandals.
