Less Than 10% of Anc Members Vote on Independence Abstention on 23j
The majority rejects the proposal to promote abstention and null voting
The leadership of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), headed by Dolors Feliu, proposed promoting indepe abstention in the elections on July 23. next weekend they consulted the grassroots. Less than 10% of the members called to the consultation participated.
The ANC asked its members if they agree with "promoting active abstention and political null vote." This would include voting with the ballot for yes to independence from October 1.
Only 38.67% were in favor of this option. In contrast, almost 60% of those registered decided not to promote independentist abstention. 1.62% voted blank.
This means that the organization will remain neutral regarding the voting option in the general elections on July 23. But what is striking is the little mobilization capacity that the sovereignist structures now have.
Of the more than 40,000 ANC members who could vote, only 3,773 did. Of these, 2,253 voted against active abstention. In favor of abstention, 1,459 voted. And 61 voted blank, according to writer Màrius Serra.
It is also questioned what sense it makes to abstain or vote null in a consultation about abstaining. A sign of the paranoia in which Catalan independence is currently installed.
The Grassroots Against the Leadership
The Assemblea Nacional Catalana has been one of the main entities critical of the drift of the independentist parties. The civic platform denounced the inability of ERC and Junts to regain the strategic unity of independence. For this reason, the leadership proposed actively promoting abstention as punishment.
After the consultation held next weekend, the results slam the door on the will of the ANC leaders. And the organization thus aligns with others like the Consell de la República and Òmnium Cultural, which call for massive voting.
However, neither in the Consell de la República nor in Òmnium Cultural has there been a consultation with the grassroots. The ANC's consultation is significant because it allows for the first time to take the pulse of independence amid division. In this case, it shows that abstentionism is in the minority.
More Than 40,000 Members
The Assemblea Nacional Catalana doesn't represent all of independence, nor did all those called to the consultation vote. But it is a cross-sectional platform that allows for an idea of the grassroots sentiment on this issue.

There is a radical sector of independence, very active on social media, that promotes abstention as punishment for the processist parties and an act of massive disobedience. But there is also a sector in favor of voting. They consider that abstention is shooting oneself in the foot and serves the interests of Spanishism.
