Unexpected twist at T-Mobile: take note of this if you're planning to switch phones

Thousands of Americans know they can benefit from the new measure that the operator will begin to implement

If you're thinking about switching phones, there are important updates that might interest you, especially if you're a T-Mobile customer. The company is preparing a change that could benefit many users who, until now, were left out of promotions for having a damaged phone. Although it's not official yet, information has leaked that points to a surprising decision.

The best part is that it could save you a lot of money on your next device. The company is known for its aggressive campaigns to attract and retain customers, especially with phone trade-in offers.

However, until now, the company was quite strict. If your device had a cracked screen or any liquid damage, it was automatically excluded from any trade-in promotion. But that could be about to change.

T-Mobile's new change

According to an internal document accessed by the specialized outlet The Mobile Report, T-Mobile is about to relax its trade-in policies. This means that, soon, damaged phones could be accepted as part of the payment to get a new phone.

However, not everything is that simple. The change is expected this month and will apply only under certain conditions. For example, phones with cracked screens or liquid damage would be accepted, but they'd receive a reduced trade-in value.

Even so, this would be good news for those who have an old or broken device and don't want to spend as much on their next purchase.

Conditions imposed by the carrier

Not all damaged phones will qualify. If the device doesn't turn on or has the "Find My Device" feature enabled, it won't be accepted. In addition, T-Mobile will require that the phone has been active on their network for at least 30 days within the past 12 months.

This aims to ensure that the phone really belongs to the customer and isn't a device bought solely for use in a promotion. The trade-in value will also depend on the plan you have. Customers on the most comprehensive plan, called Experience Beyond, will get the best trade-in value (Level 1).

Meanwhile, those on the Experience More plan will receive a lower amount (Level 2). This makes choosing the right plan key if you plan to switch your phone soon.

In addition, T-Mobile could allow the trade-in of devices that aren't expressly on their official list. In those cases, the company would evaluate the device's value individually to decide if it qualifies for the promotion. This new approach represents greater flexibility compared to previous rules.

Therefore, stay tuned to T-Mobile's official announcements and make sure you meet the requirements so you don't miss out on this opportunity. The new trade-in program could be a real relief for many users.
