AT&T's special notice to Americans: If it fails, take note of all this

These are quite common problems that have an easy solution, but they can leave you without phone service

Is your mobile phone malfunctioning and you don't know what to do? If you're an AT&T customer, don't worry. The company has some key tips to get your phone working normally again. It's not uncommon for devices to experience issues with calls or signal from time to time.

However, many of these problems can be easily solved by following a few simple steps. It's important for you to know what to do if your phone is experiencing issues, so you can enjoy uninterrupted mobile service.

Steps AT&T recommends taking

One of the first steps AT&T recommends is simply restarting your phone. Turning the device off and back on can solve many basic connectivity issues. This helps the phone's operating system reload and can reset any settings that are causing the malfunction.

If you can't make calls or you experience dropped calls during a conversation, make sure you try calling again. Sometimes, the problem may be temporary or caused by a brief network interruption. By making a new call, you can check if the issue persists or if it has been solved.

Software updates are essential for the proper functioning of the device. AT&T recommends that you check to make sure your phone is running the latest available version of the operating system. Updates not only improve the device's performance, but they also fix potential security and connectivity issues.

If the problem persists, it's possible that the cause is a weak signal or limited coverage in your area. Make sure you have an active mobile signal on your phone. AT&T offers a network coverage map on their website, where you can check if the area where you are has adequate coverage.

Another recommendation from AT&T is to make sure call forwarding isn't enabled on your phone. If forwarding is enabled, calls could be redirected to another number without your knowledge. To disable it, simply dial #21# on your phone and press the call key.

Sometimes, the problem may be caused by blocked calls. If you have any call filter or blocker set up, it's important to check if you're unintentionally restricting calls. AT&T ActiveArmorSM is a tool that allows you to manage blocked calls, and you can check which numbers are blocked and why.

Airplane mode disables all wireless connections on your device, including calls and mobile signal. Make sure this option isn't enabled. If you see an airplane icon on your screen, simply turn it off to restore your connectivity.

Check that you have service

If your phone displays a message like "Insert SIM" or "Emergency Call Only," there may be an issue with your SIM card. AT&T suggests removing the SIM card from the device, gently cleaning it, and then reinserting it. This can solve SIM card-related issues and restore network access.

If none of the above solves the problem, it's possible that your mobile service has been suspended for some reason. AT&T allows you to check your account status to confirm if there is any suspension on your service. If that's the case, check how to reactivate your mobile service so you can use your phone without interruptions.
