Strong warning for AT&T customers: make up your mind before it's too late
Many Americans don't know that they are still in time to claim compensation for a mistake made
Millions of AT&T users in the United States have received a message in recent weeks that they shouldn't ignore. It's a direct, clear warning with an expiration date. The company became embroiled in a legal controversy after the leak of personal data belonging to some of its customers.
Now, those who were affected by these incidents have a final opportunity to claim compensation. But there's a key detail: the deadline ends on November 18, 2025.
The situation dates back to two serious security breaches that occurred in 2024. In the first, recorded in March, sensitive customer data was published on the dark web, such as phone numbers, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and even access codes.

Months later, in July, a new incident allowed the unauthorized download of information linked to user accounts, as well as contacts with whom they interacted. These two events triggered a class action lawsuit against AT&T, which the company has chosen to solve through a financial settlement.
AT&T's compensation
According to the terms of the settlement, AT&T will pay a total of $177 million in compensation. Depending on the type of damage suffered and the documentation provided, those affected could receive up to $7,500. For those who were only victims of the March incident, the amount could reach $5,000.
In the case of the July attack, up to an additional $2,500 could be claimed if real losses are proven. Not all users will automatically receive compensation. It's necessary to verify whether they're among the affected customers.
To do so, users must access the website enabled by the settlement administration and use their group member ID, in addition to email address, full name, or AT&T account number.

Once eligibility is confirmed, the claim must be submitted online or by mail, including all documentation that supports the loss or damage suffered. The most important thing is that this process be completed before November 18, since after that date it won't be possible to access compensation.
Opportunity for the operator's customers
This settlement represents a unique opportunity for AT&T customers who were affected by the data leak. However, many still haven't acted, either due to lack of awareness or because they haven't realized they could be among the compromised users. That's why the authorities managing the class action insist that users must act now.
Beyond the financial compensation, this case is a wake-up call about the importance of protecting personal data. Cybersecurity experts recommend always keeping secure passwords, enabling two-step authentication, and regularly reviewing your account activity.
