It's official: the open secret about Aitana Bonmatí's parents is revealed

The Barça footballer is once again recognized, for the third consecutive year, as the number one in the world

Aitana Bonmatí has made history. The FC Barcelona footballer has won the Ballon d'Or for the third consecutive year, establishing herself as one of the most influential figures in soccer. However, her story can't be understood solely from what happens on the field.

Much of who she is today can be explained by her home life, especially by the way she was raised. Her parents, Rosa and Vicent, are Catalan Language and Literature teachers, and both have played a decisive role in Aitana's development.

Who Are Rosa and Vicent, Aitana Bonmatí's Parents

They raised her with an open mindset, encouraging reflection, curiosity, and critical thinking from a young age. Her home was always an environment where education, reading, and culture were valued.

"My parents are high school Catalan Language and Literature teachers. I've always been very connected to my studies, especially languages. Since I was very young, they've instilled in me a love for reading."

Aitana grew up in that environment. Her way of thinking, communicating, and her character both on and off the field reflect that solid foundation. "The fact that I read and keep learning comes from them," she stated clearly.

The Open Secret of Aitana Bonmatí's Parents

But her parents' influence doesn't end there. There's also a story that shows the kind of decisions they made from day one. When she was born, Rosa and Vicent wanted their daughter to have her mother's surname first, something that wasn't allowed at the time.

Faced with this legal limitation, Rosa chose to register her daughter with her own surnames, listing only her maternity until the father's surname could be added. It was an uncommon decision for the time, but completely consistent with their values.

In 1999, Rosa was interviewed and explained her position this way: "I didn't know it wasn't possible," she said. "Well, that's it, I'll register her as if she were only my daughter, and he knows he's the child's father, and when it's legal, we'll go register her," she added.

That decision was more than a gesture; it was a declaration of principles. Years later, the Bonmatí surname isn't just present in sports headlines, but also in the collective memory as a symbol of progress, equality, and conviction.

Today, the Bonmatí surname appears in all international soccer media and trophies. It's the result of a firm decision made by her parents more than 25 years ago. They chose to put the mother's surname first, defying what the law dictated at that time.
