Regretful, Hansi Flick shows his new game plan against Osasuna

The German coach's decision against Osasuna has been unexpected

FC Barcelona faces a match of enormous importance against Osasuna at Camp Nou. Hansi Flick's team knows that a victory would allow them to keep distancing themselves from Real Madrid, who will play tomorrow against Alavés. At this point in the season, every matchday counts and any slip-up can alter the title race.

The build-up to the match has been marked by the starting eleven chosen by the German. Flick has almost the entire squad available and that has forced him to make significant decisions. Some of them haven't gone unnoticed by anyone in the Barça environment.

Hansi Flick's changes against Osasuna

One of the surprises has been Frenkie de Jong's place on the bench. The Dutch midfielder seems to have lost his spot in favor of Eric García, who returns to play as a holding midfielder. Flick is looking for more tactical balance and a more controlled ball progression from the inside areas.

In the defensive line, there has also been continuity in a choice that generates debate. Gerard Martín has appeared again as a center-back, forming a partnership with Pau Cubarsí. It's a makeshift solution, but the coach considers it valid for this type of match.

However, the most notable aspect of the approach has been in the attacking area. The positions of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have drawn all the attention from the opening whistle. Flick wanted to send a clear message after the last match.

Lamine Yamal returns to his position and Raphinha takes the attacking midfield role

In the previous match, Lamine Yamal played as an attacking midfielder. He performed excellently, participating a lot between the lines and creating advantages in the inside areas. Even so, the German coach has decided to modify the plan to surprise Osasuna.

This afternoon, Flick has moved the "10" back to the right wing. There, Lamine can take on defenders with more space and punish the opposing full-back in one-on-one situations. It's a move that seeks verticality and constant imbalance.

Behind Ferran Torres, the chosen one has been Raphinha. The Brazilian appears as an attacking midfielder, with freedom to move between the lines and get into the box. Flick trusts his ability to press after losing possession and keep the team's high tempo.

This tactical adjustment is no coincidence. The coach believes that, in certain scenarios, Barça needs more width and less congestion in the middle. Against a well-organized Osasuna, stretching the field was a priority.

For now, the decision is working for Hansi Flick. Barça is finding more ball circulation with Raphinha inside and more dribbling with Lamine out wide. We'll see if this adjustment allows the Catalans to take all three points.
