Jorge Valdano, more honest than ever, laughs at Ferran Torres: 'It's not easy...'
The Argentine, always so deep in his reflections, said something about Ferran Torres that did not go unnoticed
The match held last night at Stamford Bridge between FC Barcelona and Chelsea left a rather bitter feeling among the Barça community. The English team won 3-0 in a clash that started out fairly balanced but ended up tilting decisively toward the Londoners. Barça started with personality and created danger in the opening stages, especially with a very clear chance from Ferran Torres that could've changed everything.
The Valencian striker found himself alone in front of Robert Sánchez and, with the goalkeeper already beaten, Ferransent the ball wide in an inexplicable way. That play marked a turning point in the match, since from that moment on Chelsea began to grow. Barça, on the other hand, lost confidence and precision, a fatal combination in a high-pressure setting like Stamford Bridge.

In addition, a few minutes later Chelsea scored the opening goal in a chaotic play inside the six-yard box. Ferran Torres and Koundé couldn't clear a relatively simple ball, allowing the home team to find the first goal of the night. That defensive miscoordination, uncharacteristic of a team aiming to compete for the Champions League, did a lot of damage to Flick's team, who saw the match slipping away.
Then came the red card for Ronald Araújo, a play that ended up sealing any chance of a comeback. The Uruguayan, who started the match, once again rushed into an individual duel. With ten footballers on the field, Barça's resistance was minimal against a Chelsea team that smelled blood and didn't forgive.
Jorge Valdano speaks loud and clear about Ferran Torres
After the match, a large part of the Barça fanbase focused their criticism on Araújo, whose sending off was decisive. However, for Jorge Valdano everything was decided in the 5th minute and he didn't hold back when analyzing what happened. Even though many Barça fans avoided directly pointing at Ferran Torres, the Argentine chose to focus precisely on that play.
"He struck it with the inside of his foot, with the surface that offers more guarantees for accuracy. He surely tried to place it too precisely or the ball bounced badly for him", Jorge Valdano began, trying to soften the error of number "7".
Immediately after, Jorge Valdano added, with a certainly ironic tone, that "it's not easy to explain, since Ferran Torres had the 23 ft. (7 meters) of the goal for himself. The goalkeeper was already beaten toward the opposite side. Here Barça lost a great opportunity that could've changed the match".
Jorge Valdano's words perfectly sum up the feelings of much of the Barça community. In the Champions League, missing such clear chances comes at a very high price, especially away from home and against opponents of Chelsea's caliber. Ferran Torres knows this better than anyone, and there's no doubt that he'll regret that play for a long time, a play that could've written a very different story.
Now Barça will have to get back up quickly, correct mistakes, and recover the lost confidence. Because in Europe, every detail counts, and last night it was proven once again.
