Joan Laporta justifies Lamine Yamal's situation and rejects Messi: 'He has talked about everything'

The president, as is already customary, doesn't hide and talks about the hottest topics in current Barça affairs

If Joan Laporta is known for anything, it's his extreme sincerity. The Barça president isn't afraid to say what he thinks, whether the public likes it or not, and he always does so with one goal: to defend the interests of the Catalan club. In addition, thanks to his successful management, Flick has a competitive squad and the fans will be able to enjoy their successes at the renovated Camp Nou.

In recent hours, the top Barça executive has become the main figure in sports news. His interview on Catalunya Ràdio produced major headlines, especially regarding Messi and Lamine Yamal. True to his style, Joan Laporta didn't avoid any questions and addressed every topic with his usual frankness.

Joan Laporta talks about Messi's return

Regarding Messi, Joan Laporta acknowledged that he  "welcomed the surprise visit to Camp Nou" from the Argentine star. "It was a spontaneous impulse that shows his Barça spirit", the president explained, making it clear that the emotional bond between club and player remains intact. "I didn't know he was coming, but this is his home, he knows he's loved and he'll always be welcome", he added.

However, to the surprise of many, Joan Laporta made it clear that he doesn't consider a return of Messi as a footballer. "Out of the utmost respect for Messi and the club's professionals, I wouldn't make an unrealistic speculation, it's not appropriate", he stated firmly. With these words, the president wanted to close the door to any possibility of a sporting return for the Argentine, at least as a player on the field.

Joan Laporta explains the Lamine Yamal and Spanish national team situation

Another of the most desired topics was Lamine Yamal, whose absence from the Spanish national team has sparked debate. The Barça president was clear in acknowledging what many already suspected: the club has prioritized the player's recovery over any international commitment. "We try to heal our players at the pace that suits us. We do what we have to do in Barça's interest. We want to have our player available for the club", he said.

These words confirm that the decision to keep Lamine Yamal out of the Spanish national team was agreed upon by Flick, the medical staff, and the board. The "10", who is dealing with pubalgia discomfort, needs rest to avoid a more serious injury. At Barça they've decided that he should stay in Barcelona. However, Joan Laporta wanted to emphasize that there is no conflict with the RFEF.

Joan Laporta's interview on Catalunya Ràdio has once again shown why he's one of the most charismatic and media-savvy presidents in the world. He spoke about everything, without beating around the bush or using empty phrases. He has definitively closed the door to a return of Messi as a player, and he has also defended the management of the Lamine Yamal case.
