Barça wins and Pedri runs straight to Deco: 'Call Atlético de Madrid'

FC Barcelona wins a thrilling match in which Pedri has seen firsthand that Deco was right

FC Barcelona has emerged victorious from a crucial match for the development of LaLiga by winning 3-1. Atlético de Madrid arrived at Camp Nou with a real chance of leaving with the joint lead in hand, and the truth is they almost managed it. In fact, right at the start, Álex Baena silenced a stadium packed to the rafters with a goal that made things very difficult for Hansi Flick's team.

Little by little, led by a decisive Pedri, Barça started to warm up. The Canary Islander took charge, set the pace, and managed to help the team recover their rhythm in midfield. Before halftime, Pedri himself provided a golden assist to Raphinha to equalize, a goal that restored hope for the home team heading into the second half.

The result could have been even better for the Catalans, as Lewandowski missed a penalty that would've completely changed the course of the match. The Pole wasn't sharp in his finish and kept Atlético alive, who continued to defend in an organized manner. Even so, the blaugrana response was solid and the second 45 minutes proved decisive.

The second half kept the same intensity, although with a slightly more patient Barça, aware that Atlético's fatigue could take its toll. Flick's team managed the tempo and found the advantage thanks to a beautiful goal from Dani Olmo, who finished coolly against Oblak. That goal and another from Ferran Torres in stoppage time allow Barça to sleep as sole leaders, a huge reward considering the demands of the match.

Beyond the three points, one Atlético figure excelled brightly at Camp Nou: Álex Baena. The Colchonero midfielder has shown why he's considered one of the best young players in the world, and he's done so on a special stage. Control, vision, personality, and outstanding physical display have defined his match.

City wanted him and Barça did too, but Simeone offered him an immediate starring role, and Álex Baena didn't hesitate. Judging by his season, it seems he's made the right choice, and tonight Pedri has been a direct witness to the Castellón native's level. Both faced off in a vibrant midfield battle, a duel of pure talent that left its mark on the Canary Islander.

That's why it wouldn't be surprising if Pedri, an admirer of good soccer, dreams of having Álex Baena as a partner in the future. The Atlético player has confessed on several occasions that he'd like to wear the blaugrana jersey someday, so the ball is in Deco's court. If Barça's sporting director makes an offer close to the player's real value, Atlético could end up opening the door.

It would be a brilliant signing for Barça, another playmaker for a midfield that always thrives on creativity and imbalance. Tonight, before everyone's eyes, Álex Baena has once again proved that he's ready to take a bigger step in his career.
