Amazing! Joan Laporta doesn't want matches to be played at Camp Nou: the reason is truly surprising

Camp Nou faces a new delay; it also won't be ready for the match against Girona after the break: there's a reason

FC Barcelona's fans are focused on a single date: the return to Camp Nou. The blaugrana temple has been closed for too long due to renovation work, and the members' patience is starting to run out. There have been many failed announcements and unfulfilled promises about the reopening, which has created a mix of excitement and frustration among the culés.

In recent weeks, the board led by Joan Laporta had conveyed optimism. After the international break, everything pointed to Barça being able to return to their stadium for the match against Girona. However, the reality is quite different: Camp Nou will have to wait.

In theory, Joan Laporta has not yet received approval from Barcelona City Council to reopen Camp Nou for safety reasons. The council requires structural guarantees before allowing the public to enter, and the technical reports are not fully completed. That is the official version, but not the only one.

They reveal the real reason for the new Camp Nou delay

According to El Nacional, the real reason behind this new delay is not technical, but financial. Joan Laporta has reportedly decided, strategically, to delay the return to Camp Nou until the club can guarantee a more profitable capacity.

The board's plan is to reopen Camp Nou with at least 45,000 spectators. Playing with just 27,000, as the current construction conditions allow, would mean significant losses compared to the revenue caused by Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The financial difference, according to internal estimates, would be several million per match, and that's why Barça will keep playing at Montjuïc for a few more weeks.

In other words, Joan Laporta has chosen to prioritize short-term financial stability over the excitement of a symbolic return to Camp Nou. The decision has sparked debate, as many believe that returning home, even with fewer fans, has an incalculable sentimental value.

What is the current state of Camp Nou?

The work on the lower stands and the exterior entrances has not been completed yet. Safety is another key factor that Joan Laporta doesn't want to compromise. Although the timeline is being extended, the priority is to offer a comfortable, modern, and safe experience for all attendees.

Meanwhile, Barça will keep competing at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, which has adapted perfectly to the club's needs during this period. The fans have replied well at Montjuïc, although many feel that stadium will never be able to replace Camp Nou. The home of the Catalan club is almost finished, but it still needs to be financially viable for Barça to play there.
